Annual Symposium

Since 2004, an annual symposium is held in Atlanta, Georgia during the week of Walter Rodney's birthday (23 March).  The goal is to bring together scholars, researchers, activists, students and the community to discuss contemporary issues from a Rodney perspective.

Past Presenters include Dr. Lewis R. Gordon (Professor of Africana Philosophy), Dr. Horace Campbell (Syracuse University); Mr. Salih Booker (Africa Action); Dr. Amiri Baraka (Activist and Playwrght); Dr. Thomas D. Boston (Georgia Institute of Technology); Jesus "Chucho" Garcia (Afroamerica Foundation, Venezuela); Dr. Carole Boyce Davies (Cornell University), and; Dr. Paula Giddings (Noted Author and Historian) along with Andaiye (Women's Rights and Human Rights Activist).

THE 10thANNUAL

WALTER RODNEY SYMPOSIUM 

 

The Tenth Annual Walter Rodney Symposium will be held on Friday March 22 & Saturday March 23, 2013 at the Atlanta University Center, Robert W. Woodruff Library in Atlanta, GA.

THE WORKING THEME IS:

 WALTER RODNEY: A LITERARY ASSESSMENT AND HISTORICAL OVERVIEW

 The annual event is free and open to the public.

The objectives of  the symposia are to:

  • Raise awareness of Rodney’s legacy and the existence of his papers at the AUC, RWL
  • Advance scholarship  about Rodney’s work
  • Develop the Walter Rodney Foundation Journal
  • Involve students, academics, activists and the community in dialogue on contemporary issues
