Since 2004, an annual symposium is held in Atlanta, Georgia during the week of Walter Rodney's birthday (23 March). The goal is to bring together scholars, researchers, activists, students and the community to discuss contemporary issues from a Rodney perspective.
The 10th Annual Walter Rodney Symposium was held on March 22-23 at the Atlanta University Center Robert W. Woodruff Library. The keynote speaker was Howard Dodson, former Director of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and now Director of Moorland-Spingarn Research Center and Howard University Libraries.
Past Presenters include: Andaiye (Women's Rights and Human Rights Activist), Dr. Amiri Baraka (Activist and Playwright); Mr. Salih Booker (Africa Action); Dr. Thomas D. Boston (Georgia Institute of Technology); Dr. Horace Campbell (Syracuse University); Dr. Carole Boyce Davies (Cornell University); Jesus "Chucho" Garcia (Afroamerica Foundation); Dr. Paula Giddings (Noted Author and Historian), Rigoberto Giron (CARE USA) and; Dr. Lewis R. Gordon (Temple University).

WALTER RODNEY SYMPOSIUM
The 10th Annual Walter Rodney Symposium was held at the Atlanta University Center Robert W. Woodruff Library, 111 James P. Brawley Dr. SW Atlanta, GA on Friday March 22nd from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday March 23rd from 12 noon – 6:00 p.m.
“10th Anniversary Celebration: Reflections, Groundings and Advancing the Legacy”that will feature keynote speaker Howard Dodson, Director Emeritus of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and currently Director of Howard University’s Moorland-Spingarn Research Center and University Libraries.
The annual event is free and open to the public.
