Julialynne Walker, JD
Julialynne Walker is the Market Manager for the Bronzeville Growers Market, the principal facilitator for the Bronzeville Agricademy and Bronzeville Urban Growers; and the site manager of the Bronzeville Bethany Community Garden and Mamie Mack Community Garden. She is a founding member of the Urban Farmers Coalition.
Julialynne obtained a JD from Northwestern University, Illinois and her BA in Black Studies from the College of Wooster, Ohio.
Julialynne is currently the President of the Franklin Park Civic Association. She lectures on issues of the African Diaspora and urban farming to colleges and the general community. Julialynne is a popular speaker and workshop facilitator for community and academic meetings on topics such as food injustices, diversity, cross-cultural communication, entrepreneurship and social media.
She was the Facilitator of a 7 month course in urban farming sponsored by USDA/Farm Services Agency that addressed the existence of food deserts in Central Ohio, and serves as a mentor to area gardeners (currently 24 family gardens and five community gardens) and was a TEDx presenter on this topic in 2019.
Julialynne’s local community activities include serving on a number of Boards: The Columbus Africentric Early College, Columbus Landmarks Foundation, ComFest, GreenSpot Columbus, the Growing and Growth Collective and the OSU Wexner Health Equity Advisory Board and Near Eastside Community Advisory Committee, Columbus African-American Digital Collection for the Columbus Metropolitan Library and Pan-African Connections. She is an active member of the Greater Columbus Growing Coalition, OEFFA (Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association) and serves as a grant reader for the Women’s Fund of Central Ohio.
Julialynne Walker, has over 30 years of experience working with movements for social change and includes the civil rights movement, African liberation struggles and the national and Global Pan African Movements. She worked in Management consulting in South Africa for fifteen years and also worked in Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. She has traveled to six continents and over 50 countries.
Julialynne is a recipient of several awards including: the Central Community House Community Legend Award (2024), AARP Ohio’s Andrus Award for Community Service (2022), Growing to Green Community Gardener of the Year (2021), Columbus Landmarks Foundation Educator of the Year (2021), Julialynne Walker Community Learning Garden at the King Arts Complex (2021), Phenomenal Women of Central Ohio Award (2020), the Service Award from the International Congress of Black Women (2016), the Pan African Award from the Federation of African Organizations of Ohio (2015), and the Oni Award from the International Congress of Black Women (2013).
